Discusses Whole Community Approach to Emergency Management, VOAD organizations and other community-based organizations/non-profit organizations as key partners in response and recovery efforts. The audience will gain a better understanding of VOAD organizations; their role in response and recovery efforts; formal organizational structures of VOAD groups; and strategies for partnership. 

Covers the fundamental elements of behavioral recognition of an active shooter such as understanding and articulating physical cues, tactical cues, and weapons cues. Additionally, directed conversation as a precursor to interview/interrogation of an active shooter will also be discussed. The Run, Hide, Fight concept for staying alive during such an event will be presented.

This ELS will include an overview of field medical tactics that are based on the principles of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC). Defines fatality management; considerations for healthcare facility mass fatality planning; considerations for healthcare mass fatality preparedness; explains essential healthcare facility fatality management procedures and considerations; discusses public information and media coordination considerations for healthcare facility fatality management; security considerations for healthcare facility fatality management; evidence preservation, collection, and chain of custody considerations for healthcare facility fatality management; Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act considerations for healthcare facility fatality management; and mental and behavioral health support for healthcare facility fatality management.

Examines the requirements and considerations for preparing a community and associated healthcare facilities to capably respond and recover from a health or medical emergency. The instruction explores topics such as effective coordination, communication, and establishment of a common operating picture; understandings and agreements with relevant private sector, volunteer, and non-governmental organizations; caching and sharing of critical resources; planning considerations for addressing at-risk and special needs populations; and joint training and exercises to validate and improve community capabilities. 

The Healthcare Facility Patient Evacuation Planning and Preparedness virtual healthcare topic imparts knowledge and lessons learned in the planning and execution of evacuating a healthcare facility in preparation for, during, or after a disaster or emergency to class participants. Students review essential components of an evacuation plan from conducting a hazard vulnerability assessment through recovery and repatriation of the facility with real world examples. Students leave the course with the knowledge to evaluate and revise their facility's evacuation plan.

Introduction to the National Incident Management System and the National Response Framework. Explores the Hospital Incident Command System as a methodology for effectively applying the incident command system in a healthcare environment. The Hospital Incident Command System is discussed as it pertains to improving emergency management planning, response, and recovery capabilities for both planned and unplanned health and medical emergencies.
